Standing in a forest, the Buddha picked up a few leaves and asked the monks which was greater, the leaves in his hand or the leaves overhead. The forest, obviously. What he knew, he said, was like the forest, and what he taught was the few in his hand. He'd left the rest out because it didn't help with the job in front of them: understanding suffering and how it ends. We tend to treat completeness as a kind of safety. One more tab, one more twelve-message thread, and then surely we'll know enough to move. But a useful handful beats a whole forest you can't carry. Before you open one more source this morning, write down the smallest thing you already know that would actually help, and use that leaf.
