Break a jar and the sky it seemed to hold is unbothered. The jar was never holding anything, it was shaping your view of it. Most of a morning goes into keeping various jars intact: the plan for the day, the version of yourself a meeting expects, the story in which you are on top of things. That maintenance can start to feel like the actual work, though what is usually at stake is the shape and not much else. Today, when you catch yourself bracing to keep some shape from cracking, ask what would genuinely be lost if it did.
It is neither born nor dies, It neither grows nor decays, nor does It undergo any change, being eternal. It does not cease to exist even when this body is destroyed, like the sky in a jar (after it is broken), for It is independent.
Vivekachudamani, verse 134, traditionally attributed to Adi Shankara (trans. Swami Madhavananda)
